The next meeting will be Monday, April 16, 2012. Join us!
Photoshop Elements SIG
(Photo
Post-Processing SIG)
Taking photos with a digital camera is just the beginning. The next
step is getting them out of the camera and processing them in some
way for printing or posting on the internet. The "standard" for
digital processing programs is Adobe Photoshop, with Photoshop
Elements the easiest and least expensive tool to start with. This
SIG includes workshops on beginner and basic operations in Photoshop
Elements, Lightroom, and other software tools as well as sharing of
projects and techniques learned by fellow participants. Users of
Photoshop CS, Lightroom and other programs are invited and
encouraged to participate, but most activities are conducted using
Photoshop Elements.
This group meets the third Monday of each month in Room
B210 (upstairs) at 7:00 p.m. If you have a laptop with
Photoshop Elements installed you are encouraged to bring it, along
with any photos and projects.
Photoshop Elements Techniques
magazine special offer to SIG members
We’ve been using Photoshop Elements Techniques magazine
tutorials in our SIG meetings and several members have subscribed on
their own. If you haven’t subscribed we have coordinated a special
offer from the publisher:
Recommended Photo Book Links
As
promised at our January meeting, SIG member Carol Mills provided the
following review of Photo Book sites. If you have printed a photo book
bring it to the March SIG meeting to show the group.
http://www.smilebooks.com One-time offer for an 8 x 8 soft cover
photobook plus shipping cost of about $8.
The easiest way to find this link is to first go to
www.photobookgirl.com and click on Coupons and Deals and scroll
down the page to click on the “free” link. It will take you to
Smilebooks.
http://www.mixbook.com/ Go to Photobook
Girl website and get a Groupon coupon for
$15 towards $50 of product, books, calendar, etc. I like this one best
of the few I’ve used. Easy to work with and a good variety of clipart,
backgrounds, ability to spread a photo across 2 pages, adjust
transparency of clip art and background, use photo for background,
etc.
http://www.shutterfly.com I like this company but not so many
price deals as Mixbook. Good product and
easy to use.
Sams
and Costco have nice books but not as much variety in design. Good
pricing.
Read the reviews of different companies on
Photobook Girl.
I edit my photos in Elements, chose the ones I want to put in a photo
book (about 100) and copy them to an upload folder, makes it easier
later when you want to upload your photos to the book website. When
designing a book, look for the ability to make frames, shadows and
transparencies. Also look for the layout options. Some books will not
allow you to spread a panorama photo across 2 pages. If you want a
photo to cover the entire page, be sure to drag the edges far enough
so that no white will show along the edge. CHECK SPELLING!
Elements Presets
I found a preset filter for Elements that I have used. Watch the You
Tube video for easy instructions on how to install it in Elements. I
like the B/W infra filter and also the Color polarized filter. Lots of
artistic options, too.
